Nothing Lasts Forever (2026)

Instrumentation

2 pianos (one prepared) and fixed media

Duration

5 minutes

Program Note

Nothing Lasts Forever is written for two pianos (one prepared) and fixed media. It is the final piece written and premiered during my time as a student at the Mannes School of Music; I thus felt it should take the form of a kind of farewell. The electronics track makes liberal use of field recordings taken in my surroundings: church bells audible from the window of my apartment, and the sound of the ferry that crosses the Hudson between New York and New Jersey. These are processed into a kind of “memory-tapestry” woven together with the two pianos.

Nothing Lasts Forever is dedicated to all of my friends and colleagues at Mannes, and lasts approximately five minutes in performance.
